"But what will you do in the end?"

"But what will you do in the end?" is the last verse in Jeremiah 5.  The verse in context reads as follows:

"A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land:  The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way.  But what will you do in the end?"

I should just stop here.  But you and I both know that I won't.  The Word of God is a testimony of His mercy and gracefulness to those who call upon the name of Jesus.  But, a horrible and shocking thing has happened in America in specific and the world in general.  "What are you talking about?" you might be asking.  We have this, that and the next thing because we have worked hard and have received the rewards of running our own lives.  Thank you very much!  But wait!  There's more!  Sell your soul to the world and Satan and you can get two times the original offer of selfish desire and self fulfillment at the expense of those who don't give in.  This deal won't last long and what will you do in the end.
Like the grass withers and dies so shall we.  At least for some of that death will only be of our physical bodies.  Not so for those without hope and without salvation.  Choose what you may because of course it's your choice.  Just please remember that consequences (positive and negative) will result because of the choice you make.  Don't think so?  Pass a state trooper going 80 mph and see what happens.  Get this:  the prophets (false) will actually be there telling you that what is right is wrong and what's wrong is actually right.  Don't like white bread?  Go choose your favorite brand.  Want a certain type of jam?  Go choose your favorite brand.  Don't like your church?  Go choose your favorite brand.  Don't like the confines of Christian living?  Go choose believers (who actually aren't) that believe like you.  Don't like the word "sin"?  Go choose some rationalization or justification the world has plenty of.  But what will you do in the end?
The day of reckoning is not coming.  It's already come.  There are many days of reckoning for us human beings.  In fact everyday is a day of reckoning.  Especially true for the Christian who is to die daily to self.  That day of reckoning is not coming.  It has already come and we have flunked the exam.  You and I.  We failed, are failing, and will continue to fail.  So, why not just give up?  Because today is not the only day of reckoning.  That's grace!  People around you and I have been making choices that have consequences positive and negative that are about to or have already fallen on us.  James 4:17 says, "If you know what is right to do and don't do it, you sin."  See.  There is the consequence right before us.  We have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  We are a doomed people without Jesus' grace and mercy.  What about the rest of the world?  Well, the old phrase is "the worlds going to hell in a handbasket."  The option is whether you want to be in the handbasket or walk the narrow road that leads to the foot of the cross.  It's always your choice.  It's always been your choice.  One day the time for choosing will close.  There will be no more wishing, hoping and faking.  There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (I like that phrase) for those who are faced with the consequences they have chosen that leads them to eternal life in hell.  Their choice.  There will be tears of joy and songs of praise to God for those who have chosen his Son.  Remember, it's always your choice.  But what will you do in the end?
